The Murray River. Wind down
Food & Wine
The leisurely pace of the majestic Murray is a perfect place to enjoy the "slow food" around the river.

The Slow Food Initiative

The Slow Food initiative has brought together some of Australia’s best chefs utilising the superb fresh local food and the area’s legendary wine. Celebrity chef and author Stefano de Pieri leads Chefs of the Murray an event to promote local produce and to develop local cooking talent. Visit one of the Chefs of the Murray restaurants. You can also try the local produce where it’s grown: such as, the many yabbie and trout farms, orchards and farm gates throughout the region.

Fresh Local Produce

There is also the opportunity to meet the growers at the Hume Murray Farmers Market in Albury-Wodonga

In the Yarrawonga Mulwala Region you can tour the Farm Gate Trail – Pick your own fruit at various locations, purchase locally made cheese from the dairy or visit an Alpaca farm.

Wineries and Breweries

Call in at the micro-breweries, or sample acclaimed Murray wines at the many cellar doors, such as Gehrig Estate Winery, the oldest winery in Victoria, or Stanton and Killeen Vineyards, where the Stantons have been producing wine since 1875. At Wahgunyah there’s the award-winning St Leonards Vineyards located in the Rutherglen wine region where you can join the Rutherglen Muscat Trail, with 19 cellar doors close to each other – this is the centre of the world when it comes to muscat, port and tokay. Young winemakers from around Rutherglen, have formed “The Youngbloods” to advance the continuation and future development of these unique winemaking enterprises.

For the wine connoisseurs, Echuca-Moama has more than 800 hectares of flourishing vines and is best known for it’s shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay

The Murray is the perfect destination to slowly savour the best of local food, wine and produce.
