The Murray River. Wind down
Barham - Koondrook
Be inspired by this classic River Murray countryside. With red gum forests and river flats flanked by red sand hills, it's all within a short drive of twin towns of Barham-Koondrook.

Activities

Stretch out in this relaxing holiday spot, ideal for picnics, camping and fishing, or bird watching which is exceptional throughout the surrounding country.

Cast a line for Murray Cod or Golden Perch in the Murray River or at Barham lakes and take a forest drive through Gunbower Island State Forest. Just a short drive from Koondrook, the state forest is a sanctuary for birds and native mammals and has a circuit walk that takes most of the day to complete. There is also an excellent 18-hole golf course set among superb river red gums and is where golfing star Stuart Appleby began his career.

Wildlife

To the south-west of Barham-Koondrook is Kerang and the Kerang Wetlands System. Made up of some 50 lakes and marshes, it is home to hundreds of species of water birds and is the largest breeding grounds for ibis in the world. The Kerang Wetlands is a magnificent area for bird watching, where in addition to waders and waterbirds you’ll see sea eagles, herons and kites.
