


Swan Hill was another important river port on the Murray, developed as a major trading centre during the days when river was a key mode of inter-colony transport.
These days, its past lives alongside the present . Step aboard a romantic riverboat paddle-steamer Pyap or motor vessel Kookaburra and go with the flow.
Swan Hill, like other river towns on the Murray, has a fascinating colonial history, which you can see in the Pioneer Settlement Museum. While on the history trail, go and see the Burke and Wills Tree, a Moreton Bay fig that is said to have been planted by the ill-fated explorers to mark their visit during their 1860 expedition to cross Australia from South to North. The tree now stands some 27 m tall and has a trunk diameter of more than 3 m.
The Murray at Swan Hill, and in the surrounding towns of Tooleybuc and Robinvale offers great angling opportunities. There are eight rivers, creeks and lakes within an hour’s drive of Swan Hill, offering some of the best fishing around.
Swan Hill is also home to the world-class Murray Downs Golf & Country Club set in a stunningly beautiful environment.
A short drive on the Murray Valley Highway south-east of Swan Hill will bring you Lake Boga for swimming and waterskiing.
